RITA's Educational Goals

It is our goal to raise the knowledge and expertise of RITA member employees and self-directed IRA industry professionals.  RITA sponsors and supports an educational certification program that is recognized as an honor and distinction, and positions those who receive the designation as leaders in the field.

Through classroom instruction, industry expert presentations, and breakout sessions, instructors will reinforce concepts to prepare students for the RITA Certified Self-Directed IRA Professional (SDIP) certification.

 

 

The RITA INSTITUTE FUNDAMENTALS TEST

The IRA Institute is sponsoring the IRA Institute's Fundamental test. If you have already taken the IRA Institute's Advanced class, passed the test and have 2 years or more experience in the IRA industry, you can sign up to take the Fundamentals test. If you pass the Fundamentals test with a 75% or more grade, you will receive the Self-Directed Industry Professional (SDIP) certification. You can study for the test by using the IRS Publication 590. (This test is can be substituted with a CISP certificate)

THE RITA IRA INSTITUTE

The Retirement Industry Trust Association (RITA) is conducting the IRA Institute. This Advanced Self-Directed IRA class which is the only one of its kind in the self-directed retirement industry. Self-directed retirement professionals, registered representatives, brokers, real estate professionals, attorneys, CPAs and banking regulators should all attend.

We focus on alternative assets in IRA accounts, prohibited transactions, precious metals, real estate, LLCs, UBTI, audits, legal requirements for processing IRA accounts and how to reduce fraud in self-directed IRAs. Interactive small group work will enhance problem solving and learning about how to analyze specific technical concerns.

This class is 3 days with a 75 multiple choice question test at the end of the third day which can lead to earning a Self-Directed Industry Professional (SDIP) certification.


RITA CERTIFIED SDIP

The SDIP certification is the professional credential for self-directed IRA industry professionals who have dedicated IRA technical, operational, and compliance oriented expertise. The RITA Certified SDIP designation signifies that an individual working in self-directed IRA industry has attained comprehensive training in the following areas: IRA alternative investments such as promissory notes, real estate, LLCs, precious metals, and private stock, prohibited transactions, UBTI, anti-fraud measures, disclosures, as well as expertise in IRA documentation, reporting requirements, eligibility and contribution requirements, IRA portability, and distributions. Candidates for the SDIP designation must attend the RITA IRA Institute 3-day program, pass the RITA IRA Institute Exam, have a minimum of two (2) years of dedicated IRA operational and technical experience, have either a CISP designation or pass the RITA IRA Fundamentals Exam, and have a letter of recommendation that attests to the candidate’s qualifications and IRA experience.


CONFERENCES

RITA hosts two conferences every year for trust companies, banks, third party administrators, attorneys, financial and real estate professionals that serve the self-directed retirement industry. Superb education and networking opportunities.
